InfluenceThis is my mom and I at the harbor in downtown Tobermory. When I heard that we had to have a mentor for our project I immediately knew that she was my choice. My mom has been camping all her life and she loves to travel just like me. She had a huge impact on my trip because she encouraged me to push myself and be more adventurous and I am so thankful for that because without her encouragement, I would not have seen all of the wonderful things that I got to see on this trip.

Every year my mom plans our family camping trip so I knew that she would be my perfect mentor because together we could pick out the things we wanted to do every day on our trip. My mom had an influence on me as a student because she encouraged me to use my French skills to read signs. If we ever saw a sign that was in French she would always ask me "Hannah what does that say?". She also encouraged me to pursue my passion for nature by exploring different attractions in Canada and going to the nature center.
One skill that I learned from my mentor was preparation. She taught me that it is really important to do your research when going to tourist attractions. If we hadn't done any research about the grotto and just showed up in the middle of the day when it is the most crowded, my experience would not have been as enjoyable. Just taking the extra step in preparing for our adventure to the grotto made the experience so much better because we went right when it opened and there was barely anyone there.
Thank you so much mom for being my mentor for my senior capstone! You taught me so much and encouraged me to push myself and pursue my passions. You were the perfect mentor.
